How We Can Help

There is no greater joy or responsibility than to raise a child. As parents, you have the privilege of accompanying your child through the challenges and opportunities that shape them into adulthood. Each of us is unique and our children are no different.  We all possess countless strengths—in how we learn, make friends, and communicate. The same is true for how we process stress, manage anxiety, and demonstrate behaviors.

At Cognitive Connections we recognize you are an expert on your child. You know what they like to eat, how they sleep, and what makes them happy. You also can see when they struggle or when something just doesn’t feel right – even when you can’t put your finger on it.  That’s where Cognitive Connections can partner with you. We specialize in helping children and teens identify their unique strengths and needs and build their skills to decrease the struggles and allow them to shine.

For more than a decade, Cognitive Connections founder, Alison Kane has worked as a school psychologist to provide comprehensive services to countless families. Tailored to each family’s goals and objectives, Alison has completed assessments for children as young as 3 months through adulthood. Assessments can provide insight into possible learning disabilities, gifted and talented skills, developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, anxiety, depression, and more. With appropriate diagnoses and data about a child’s strengths and needs, families can then get support with navigating the various resources for support, including school-based services (such as 504 plans or IEPs) or community supports (such as support groups or tutoring). We also offer evidence-based counseling services rooted in cognitive behavioral and solution-focused psychology. By working collaboratively, we can identify ineffective patterns and build skills to help your child be able to tackle challenges that arise – from struggling with significant life transition, to making friends, to coping with stress or perfectionism, to controlling anger.
